Shackleton sits on Highway 32, about 81 kilometres northwest of Swift Current, in the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek No. 229.
For many years it was an incorporated village. That status ended on December 31, 2013, when Shackleton was restructured as a special service area under the authority of the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek, which is how it is governed today.
